Congratulations, Doug Fister

Cruising on another lunch break…

It should shock absolutely nobody that I am quite pleased with the outcome of last night’s game. I literally jumped off my couch with that last Alex Rodriguez out, and for a second, wasn’t completely sure that what I’d just seen was real. No, I am not a Yankees fan. I make a lot of jokes at their expense, and to Yankees fans, I’m probably just another drop in a very large bucket of haters, another anti-New York person to be dismissed with a wave of the hand. I don’t deny that the Yankees are a good team, and I’m not going to start with the whole buy-their-way-to-the-Series rhetoric that has been discussed to death, because I’m not 100% sure I buy that argument myself.  I simply am – and always have been – a fan of the underdog. And last night the underdog – er, undercat – did what I love seeing underdogs and -cats do. They beat the New York Yankees to advance to the ALCS.

The best part about this,  is of course Doug Fister’s victory. He took five innings of baseball and made them his bitch. And it was nice to see. Like a lot of Mariners fans, I miss him; but I would rather see a good player that I genuinely like do well with a genuinely good team, than stay here and founder with us. And how can you not love this?

Sure, he looks kind of wrong with a Detroit “D” instead of Seattle’s “S”, but look at that little face! In a little over two years, Doug Fister has gone from a pitcher that even a lot of Mariners fans weren’t aware of, to a guy who bested a very tough Yankees lineup in a must-win situation, and stands a chance of maybe going much farther than that. Just maybe…

I don’t know if I’ll get home in time to watch anything today, as I have definite plans to watch the Tigers take on the Texas Rangers tomorrow after I’m done with work, so tonight I’m staying late so I can leave early tomorrow. So far, so good with everything. Also, it looks like my new laptop will be arriving sometime next week (I hope), so this site will be on a more regular schedule soon. Fingers crossed!
